How to Calculate Pool Capacity
To calculate the capacity of your pool, use one of the following formulas to find the approximate volume in gallons.
- Rectangular Pool: Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Volume in Gallons
- Oval Pool: Long Diameter x Short Diameter x Average Depth x 5.9 = Volume in Gallons
- Circular Pool: Diameter x Diameter x Average Depth x 5.9 = Volume in Gallons
- Kidney-Shaped Pool: (A + B) x Length x 0.45 x Average Depth x 7.5 = Volume in Gallons
- Irregular Shapes or Free-Form Pools: Longest Length x Widest Width x Average Depth x 5.9 = Volume in Gallons
More complicated pool shapes will require multiple calculations and adding them together. For additional help on how to calculate pool capacity, contact Blue Diamond Pool Services, your swimming pool specialists, at 407-435-8553.
*Note: “A” and “B” measurements are the two widest points of the kidney shape.
