Swimming Lessons for Children
At Blue Diamond Pool Services, we are an advocate for water safety in and around the pool. Starting a child young with survival swimming lessons is the most effective and safest way to lay the foundation for water safety. This is especially important living in Florida. There are various forms of bodies of water, whether is pools, lakes or ocean, in close proximities.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the highest drowning rates is among children ages 1 to 4. Their research has shown that children in this age range that participate in formal swimming lessons can significantly reduce their risk of drowning.
We strongly recommend starting swim lessons at a very early age. Many programs will start with babies as young as 6 months. There are many options available online to find the right fit for you and your family.
Here are a few programs/resources in Central Florida to help you with your search for lessons:
Infant Swimming Resource
YMCA of Central Florida
Goldfish Swim School
Sunsational Swim School
While swim lessons are a great resource and significantly lower drowning risks, we also recommend that you set up a barrier around your pool and spa. Physical barricades such as walls, fences and covers are the first line of defense because it prevents entrance into the pool.
